A Comfortable Fishing Chair

Most fishermen/women have a favourite fishing chair; that is a chair that is comfortable no matter how long you have to sit in it beside a river trout fishing, a chair that is light enough to carry along the banks of your favourite stream, river or beach and a chair that fits comfortably into the trunk of your car. If you have a boat then your chair will probably be an exterior fixed item on the boat which should also be as comfortable as possible for your fishing trips and long days on the ocean or lakes.

The portable chair

These lightweight often waterproof or water resistant chairs are usually foldable. Made of ‘ripstop’ nylon fabric and lightweight aluminium frame they may have a built-in cooler for light refreshment, a fixed ‘table on one arm and a cup or drink bottle holder on the other so that everything is convenient for you and you don’t have to move every time you need something, it is all on hand.

Some of these chairs come with a more heavy-duty frame and fabric that can accommodate heavier weights, but do expect them to be slightly heavier to carry.

Built in chairs

Other portable fishing seats are those that are an integral part of your fishing bag. The stool or chair is attached to the bag and lies across the top of the bag when it is being carried. These are also made from waterproof or resistant nylon and are very tough and hard wearing. The bag is roomy enough for all your fishing equipment and has enough compartments for fishing baits, hooks and all your fishing tools.

The bags also come as backpacks which also have the stool or chair as a fixed part of the bag the straps are highly padded making this a very comfortable way of carrying your chair.

If you want to do a spot of night fishing, for carp perhaps, then the folding chair bed is probably the ideal for you, they come with a lightweight aluminium frame and a padded foam filled base and pillow they fold out flat for a comfortable nights rest whilst fishing. Many come with mud feet that gives the chair/bed extra stability or slippery ground.

Steel frame bed chairs

Other bed/chairs come with a steel frame and can easily accommodate two people in comfort. Many of these chairs come equipped with a fully adjustable umbrella to protect against the rain or the sunlight. Other chairs that offer protection from the elements are those that have a built-in shelter that can be erected very simply and quickly when needed.

It is most important that the seat you use for fishing in a boat is comfortable and secure. The seat should be strong enough to withstand all that the weather can throw at it and it should also look good on your boat, matching or contrasting with the color and finish of your paintwork. The upholstery of the cushions should be UV treated so that it maintains its look in the long term and should also be mildew resistant.

The frame of the chair should be constructed from either heavy duty plastic or high grade stainless steel to avoid problems from corrosion from salt water. The upholstery of the seat should be made from marine grade vinyl with high compression foam padding that will provide a high level of comfort it should also be sealed to avoid problems with moisture.
