Dining Room Tables with Wooden Chairs

Dining room tables for the average home will be rectangular in shape and have 6 matching chairs, 2 chairs on each side and a single chair at the head and foot of the table. A wooden table will usually have complementary matching wooden chairs and a chrome table will features chrome chairs, although mixing and matching construction material is not uncommon.

Dining table types

Glass, wood and aluminum have all been combined effectively in dining room suites. Bigger tables will have more dining spaces and more chairs on each side but whatever the size a nice dining table and chair set will add character to you home.

Traditional dining furniture

Traditionally the farmhouse table and dining room tables were constructed of a strong, robust hardwood and were complimented with matching solid wooden chairs.

Wooden dining room tables

A solid wood dining table might be constructed of any of the following wood types: Maple, Ash, Oak or Cherry, although there are many others too. Wooden tables require maintenance and much elbow grease is used polishing the wood if it is a precious table.

Extending dining table

Extendable tables allow you to save space as the table footprint (when not in use) is small. When required the table can be doubled in size quite easily. Two types exist: the drop leaf table (butterfly leaf) and the sliding extendable table .The drop leaf may only have a single drop but usually both sides of the table will have drops (giving 3 tables size options). The sliding table allows both ends of the table to be pulled apart horizontally and another segment of table is then inserted into the space left in the middle of the table. This add-on section is stored just below the table top when it is not in use.

Glass dining room tables

Glass top dining tables are attractive and add to the home décor whilst allowing diners to see the craftwork involved on the underside and legs of the table. The glass of the table tops are attractive and can made in tinted colors or even black glass. The support columns must be strong (glass is very heavy) and can be in a variety of finishes like ceramics or wrought iron or tubular metals with a chrome finish. The glass is toughened and will not scratch easily yet can be cleaned vigorously. Sometime wood is used in the construction of the table resulting in a wooden table with glass center which is a nice combo.

I have used wooden dining chairs in my home for many years. A handsome wooden chair with ornately carved chair legs can add a touch of class to any environment. Wooden chairs for dining or kitchen use have a limitless choice when it comes to color and finish. Wood is so natural and stylish and shows the craftsmanship involved in the making of furniture. Cushions can be used for extra comfort if people have to sit for long periods in wooden chairs. A hybrid of the solid wood chair is a wood framed modern chair which incorporates other materials for the upholstery sections of the chair (usually the seat and back supports are made from fabric or leather).

Spare wooden chairs

Chairs can be interchanged between areas as required. Heavy duty wooden chairs are great for either kitchen or dining room use but can be difficult to move if the distance between the two areas is too large. Some wood folding chairs or a couple of stacking chairs are very useful to have on standby as they will be needed for the extended dining room tables when extra guests arrive for meals.
